Ingredients
50 ml / 1/4 cup milk
5 ml / 1 tsp saffron threads
75 ml / 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
400 ml / 1 2/3 cups corn meal
10 ml / 2 tsp baking powder
5 ml / 1 tsp sugar
5 ml / 1 tsp salt
325 ml / 1 1/3 cups / 100 g grated Asiago cheese
180 ml / 3/4 cup plain yogurt
2 eggs
As required oil for deep frying
Directions
In a saucepan, heat the milk and the saffron for a few minutes without boiling. Set aside to cool.
In a bowl, combine the next six ingredients.
In another bowl, combine the saffron milk, yogurt and eggs.
Using a spatula, fold the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients.
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the oil to 180°C / 350°F.
Fry six large spoonfuls of dough at a time, until golden. Drain on paper towels and keep warm.
Serve immediately.
