Baby Clothes: Dos and Don’ts

Are you in the know about the do’s and don’ts of dressing baby?
- 1. Don’t dress your baby in fancy outfits every day. It’s incredibly tempting to dress up a baby to show them off, but many outfits aren’t practical, and you can waste time just getting them on and off for nappy changes.
- 2. Do keep the little fancy outfits and accessories for big occasions or for photo sessions, avoiding anything with stiff lace or creased fabric that may hurt the baby’s delicate skin.
- 3. Do use practical clothes that can be washed at 30-60°C, because in the first few years you’ll be doing a lot of washing – probably on a daily basis.
- 4. Do choose clothes with press-stud closings instead of buttons, and do make sure all the clothes fit the baby properly. Overly tight clothing is constricting whereas overly loose clothing can present a choking hazard.
- 5. Don’t waste time ironing baby clothes, especially terry-towelling bodysuits and jumpsuits; simply fold them as they come off the clothes line or out of the tumble-dryer.
- 6. Don’t buy booties that continually fall off and don’t worry about putting shoes on your baby until he or she has been walking for at least six weeks (no matter how tempting it might be!). Instead, buy well-fitting socks with non-skid material on the soles.
