Make Space Under the Stairwell
The hollow area under the stairs is a prime location for installing a couple of extra shelves, a computer workstation, or a shoe closet. Be sure to check with a professional such as a qualified designer or contractor to verify that you can safely break a hole into the wall.
Install Toe Kick Drawers
Consider turning the area at the base of kitchen cabinets into toe kick drawers. This extra space is perfect for storing-and having easy access to-serving platters or other flat items such as baking sheets.
Build Cabinets Up to the Ceiling
Another way to make more space in the kitchen is to install cabinets that reach up to the ceiling. This will create a few inches of extra shelf room that can be used to put away serving ware and other less-frequently used items.
Add Floating Shelves to the Wall
Don’t have any room for another free-standing bookshelf? Add floating shelves to the wall instead. Doing so adds an elegant touch to the room, and makes a great spot for displaying items such as vases, or other small décor items.
Add Hooks to the Inside of Doors
There can never be too many hooks in the home. Add hooks to the inside of every closet door so that hats, purses, backpacks, ties, and other miscellaneous items can be neatly hung up.
