Weather Stripping
I installed weather stripping on the door frame in the entrance of my house three weeks ago. The stripping on the top and the side where the door swings open are fine, but the stripping on the hinge side of the door has fallen off. Did I not install it properly?
When weather stripping is installed, most people attach it to the door frame. The stripping on the top and the open side will last a year-the standard life expectancy for stripping. The stripping on the hinge side of the frame will be caught in a wiping motion every time the door is closed, and will last only a few weeks. The proper method for installing stripping is to attach it to the frame on the top and open side, but on the hinge side it should be attached to the door itself, not the frame. This way it presses into the frame when the door closes, rather than being side swiped.
