Christopher Giroux of Midland, Ont., writes, “I’m not sure what this is-it looks quite old and is made from a heavy cast iron metal. As the lower arms are opened and closed, the centre loop raises and lowers with the use of the gears. It also seems to have spaces for wooden or metal poles to be inserted in the handle for leverage.” Any ideas, readers?
